Jackson, MS (May 30, 2014) – With hurricane season officially beginning June 1, The Salvation Army of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi has extended an invitation to its media partners for some time at the Divisional EDS Center in Jackson, MS. This event will allow The Salvation Army to discuss its level of preparedness heading into the summer.
The event will include a question and answer session about The Salvation Army and its abilities within a disaster. This will be held in the organizations emergency operations center on Ford Ave. in Jackson MS. In addition to this, visitors will be allowed access to the divisional EDS warehouse for tours of the center as well as a look at The Salvation Army’s disaster vehicles and other resources. Divisional Disaster Director, Thad Hicks stated, “This is a time for the community to see what type of support we can offer the division.” Hicks added, “Everyone who comes here walks away amazed at the amount of life-saving materials we can push out after a disaster.”
While every disaster is unique and creates its own special needs, the core of The Salvation Army’s disaster program consists of several basic services. It is vital that the community be informed about what these are, and how they can access them in the case of a disaster.
